Elevator Recall Systems New Jersey
T&R has been working side by side with NJ and NY elevator contractors for well over 20 years. Elevator recall can be controlled by your building system or you can install a standalone fire panel dedicated for the elevator. Some towns and cities require the stand alone system to trigger a zone on your building system but it is really up to the Local Authority Having Jurisdiction. An elevator recall system requires smoke detectors to be mounted within 5' of every elevator opening as well as the top of the shaft and the machine room. Some inspectors also require detectors in the elevator pit. If you have sprinklers in the machine room or the shaft you will also be required to install heat detectors and shunt trip breakers. Some towns require electronic solenoids on the sprinkler pipe entering the shaft. The way these systems work together are as follows: If a smoke detector is triggered the elevator must go into fire service and recall to the lobby. If the lobby detector is triggered then the elevator must go into phase 2 which sends the elevator to an alternate floor. If there is a real fire in the machine room or the shaft and sprinklers are in place then after the elevator recalls the heat detector will trigger in order to disconnect the power. Once that is done then the sprinkler will trip and not cause a threat of electrocution. Typically the heat detectors are set to trip at 135* and the sprinklers activate at 165* but some applications call for higher ratings. Most of the stand alone panels we install are addressable and can replace the main building panel if it is antiquated.
